NBA Player Props: Picks for LeBron James, Anthony Davis, and More | October 9, 2020
With the Los Angeles Lakers leading the series 3-1 over the Miami Heat, the NBA Finals could come to a close on Friday, October 9. Looking at the Lakers vs. Heat betting line ahead of tonight’s Game 5, the Lakers are 7-point favorites on the point spread and around -330 on the moneyline. For this article, we’ll be looking at Lakers vs. Heat player props and the plays that we like.
The NBA player prop lines mentioned in this article are taken from the free-to-use SharpSide sports betting app.
LeBron James – Over 27.5 points (-129)
For our first NBA player prop pick for Friday, we’ll be looking at LeBron James.
James is the greatest player in the world. As good as Miami is defensively, James is simply a monster on the court and he’s shown that throughout this series with an average point total of nearly 28 points per game. Although that’s right in line with where this player prop sits, we like James to go over. The title is there for the taking and there’s no one on the Heat that can stop James.
The Heat should have Bam Adebayo matchup with Anthony Davis in Game 5, which should make James’ night a little easier. Miami doesn’t have anyone who can defend Davis as well as Adebayo, so it makes sense for Adebayo to get the bulk of that responsibility. In addition to not having to face Adebayo, James will be needed to score more given that Adebayo will be defending Davis.
There’s also the narrative of James going for the MVP title. He’s already likely to win it, but why not secure it with an outstanding performance in the clinching game?
Anthony Davis – Under 28.5 points (-114)
The next player prop pick we’ll be making on Friday involves Anthony Davis.
We just discussed how we like the over on 27.5 points for James, citing that Adebayo will be guarding Davis as a big reason for that play. Extending that thinking to a Davis player prop, we’re going to take the under on 28.5 points for Davis.
After starting the NBA Finals by averaging 33 points per game in the first two games, Davis has dipped a little in the last two games. Erik Spoelstra and the Heat should go with Adebayo guarding Davis, as he’s Miami’s best chance at shutting down the athletic big man with the series on the line. Davis is a pretty good passer and has a guy names LeBron James he can easily defer to.
Rajon Rondo – Over 6.5 assists (+106)
For this next player prop, we’ll be looking at experience point guard Rajon Rondo.
Rondo’s minutes have been on the rise. He played fewer than 25 minutes in Game 1 of the NBA Finals and has seen his minutes rise with each game played. In Game 4, Rondo logged more than 28 minutes of playing time. In the first four games of the NBA Finals, Rondo has recorded fewer than 6.5 assists in three of them, but the opportunity has been there and we expect that opportunity to come through in Game 5.
Whether it’s James, Davis, or one of Los Angeles’ role players spotting up for a three, we anticipate a big night out of Rondo assists-wise.
Tyler Herro – Under 17.5 points (-102)
The last player prop pick we’ll be making for Friday is on Miami Heat rookie Tyler Herro.
For as good as Herro has been, there are going to be some growing pains with the rookie. He’s played not so great these past couple of games and his point totals have beenfitted from some late buckets. He’s a solid shooter with a lot of upside in today’s NBA, but we expect James and the Lakers to limit him in a closeout Game 5 in this NBA Finals.
We also know that Spoelstra isn’t afriad to do what he feels is best and make changes. Although Herro has logged more than 36 minutes per game in each of the last three games of this series, we could see his minutes shrink back to where he was in Game 1, which was aorund 30 minutes, if he’s not playing that well again.
