The NBA Playoffs are going strong. In the Eastern Conference, the Boston Celtics and Toronto Raptors have already punched tickets to the second round, the Miami Heat have a chance to join them on Monday, and the two teams from Los Angeles are being met with plenty of resistance from their opponents. On Monday, August 24, it’s the Lakers vs. Blazers game that is the focus of our NBA player props.

Before we get to the picks, we want to update the record, as it’s been a couple of days. On Friday, all five NBA player props we picked came in as winners, bringing the total record this NBA Playoffs up to 16-5. We picked up 4.27 units on Friday, putting us up 8.95 units overall. That’s a great start and we hope to keep it up, so let’s get to it.

LeBron James – Over 9.5 rebounds (-111), over 10.5 assists (-106)

For the first pick of the day, we’re looking at two LeBron James player props. The first is rebounds and the second is assists. We did look at his points prop of over/under 28.5 points but felt that was a fair line we’d prefer to stay away from for Monday.

James has been the most consistent player for the Lakers this series. It may be James’ 17th season, but he’s still crushing and is right around a triple-double every night. This series, James is averaging 23.6 points, 11.6 rebounds, and 11.6 assists per game. He’s showing out all over the court and the biggest reason the Lakers are up 2-1 in the series. If it weren’t for James, the Lakers might be down 1-2 or 0-3 to the Portland Trail Blazers.

Last game, James went off for 38 points in more than 34 minutes on the court. Not only that, but he also picked up 12 rebounds and tossed 8 assists. We expect him to score fewer points in this game, which puts the over/under of 28.5 points much more in play. The rebounds and assists are where it’s at for James, though. Anthony Davis has been playing better and he’s a go-to guy for James to feed. No one on Portland can guard Davis when he’s playing his best. The Lakers started this series slow by losing the first game, but it’s go-time now.

James will continue to facilitate in the offense. His team has shot poorly at times this series, but they’ll be all right and that gives James more assists. James is also a beast on the boards and will continue to haul those in against the smaller Blazers team. Independent of how many points he scores, look for James to post double-digit rebounds and assists and hit the overs on these two player props.

Damian Lillard – Under 33.5 points (-109)

Damian Lillard has been super fun to watch in the NBA bubble, but we’re going to do a little betting against him with this Lillard player prop pick because we’re taking the under on 33.5 points for Lillard.

Getting to 34 points seems like it’s the norm for Lillard because of how much buzz he generates, but that’s a high total and a heck of a lot of points. Lillard could have an awesome game and go for less than 34.

In Game 2, Lillard suffered a dislocated fingers on his non-shooting hand. It didn’t seem to affect him too much in Game 3, as he still scored 34 points, and we’re not saying it will be a factor. But, the Lakers are playing better defense on Lillard and making him work for his shots more. Alex Caruso has been a solid defender on Lillard and we expect that to continue, as the last thing the Lakers want to do is allow Lillard to go off for 40 or more points and help Portland even up the series.

Lillard can also benefit from other Blazers picking up some of the scoring, including CJ McCollum and Carmelo Anthony. If these two can continue to add 40-50 points per game, then the Blazers become a better, more well-balanced scoring unit and can give the Lakers more trouble. It’ll also take a lot of the load off of Lillard.

A line of 33.5 being high, added defensive focus by the Lakers, and Portland able to get scoring elsewhere are the big reasons we’re on the under for Lillard’s player prop of 33.5 points.
