Kawhi Leonard and Paul George are going to the Los Angeles Clippers, making the team the leading betting favorite to win the 2019-2020 NBA championship.

After an exciting opening to NBA free agency that saw Kevin Durant and Kyrie Irving sign with the Brooklyn Nets, Kemba Walker go to the Boston Celtics, Jimmy Butler leave Philadelphia for the Miami Heat, and D’Angelo Russell head to the Golden State Warriors, all eyes were on the last big chip to fall, Kawhi Leonard. It took several days, but Leonard finally made his decision and the news dropped late on Friday night. Leonard had selected the Clippers, but that wasn’t the real whopper.

The real bomb dropped when, shortly thereafter, news was announced that Paul George was getting traded to the Clippers and would be joining Leonard in Los Angeles. In return, the Oklahoma City Thunder would receive Shai-Gilgeous Alexander, Danilo Gallinari, and a record number of draft picks.

Analysts and talking heads had Leonard’s decision pinned down to either returning to the Toronto Raptors or signing with the Los Angeles Lakers to team up with LeBron James and Anthony Davis. It later came out that Leonard orchestrated George’s interest to join him on the Clippers, which prompted George to request a trade from the Thunder. It has already been a crazy offseason for the NBA, especially from a gambling perspective with all of the shifting in the futures betting odds market, but this, this was truly incredible.

Sportsbook around the world, both online and brick-and-mortar, rushed to take down their lines and recalibrate things. When the sportsbook opened the odds back up, the Clippers were the betting favorite to win next season’s title.

The Westgate Las Vegas SuperBook opened the Clippers at +300, followed by the Milwaukee Bucks at +400 and then the Lakers at +600. The Philadelphia 76ers were next at +700 and then the Golden State Warriors and Houston Rockets were both at +1000. As you can imagine, those opening odds didn’t stay in place for long. Here’s what we currently have.

Over in the Eastern Conference, it looks to be a little more of a two-horse race than over in the West. The Bucks are +125 to win the Eastern Conference and they’re the betting favorites. They did lose Malcolm Brogdon to the Indiana Pacers, but Khris Middleton and Brook Lopez will be back to play with Giannis Antetokounmpo and continue to build from last season when Milwaukee reached the Conference Finals.

The Sixers are next at +200. They lost Butler to Miami, but the addition of Al Horford and the return of Tobias Harris makes them an exciting prospect in the weaker of the two conferences.
