College Basketball Betting Picks for Saturday, March 7
Welcome back to another college basketball picks article from SharpSide. In this article, we’ll review the day’s college basketball betting slate and select a few of the most valuable plays we can find. Whether it’s the point spread, moneyline, or over/under total, we’ll break the games down as best we can. This time, we’re looking at games for Saturday, March 7.
Let me first say that I’m absolutely ice cold right now, which is a bit of a bummer. Some of it is bad luck and some of it is just being on the wrong side. Hopefully, the good luck will start to show some love soon and turn this skid around. We have to continue to trust the process, though, and we will.
For Saturday, there are still a ton of games off the board, but here are the plays I’ve found with what has been posted. I’ll find more value in the morning when the rest of the games are posted. As always, make sure you give me a follow on Twitter at @TheJourdanCase for additional insight and plays, or to just drop me a question on betting college basketball.
South Carolina (-5) at Vanderbilt
This line was shockingly low at open, moved up a tick, and is still shockingly low. South Carolina has everything to play for here, as they’re fighting for a top four seed in the SEC tournament. They’ve also proven they can win on the road, as they’ve already defeated several teams better than Vanderbilt.
We know what we’re getting with a Frank Martin defense. They’re the top ranked SEC defense in KenPom and they’re allowing just 0.96 points per possession in conference play. How’s Vanderbilt’s offense, you ask? Well, not good… at all. They’re dead last in the SEC and the only chance they have of putting up enough points to cover here is if Aaron Nesmith miraculously comes back and gets hot from three.
Vanderbilt just doesn’t have enough on either end of the floor to keep this one close. South Carolina by double digits.

Rutgers at Purdue (-6)
This isn’t a sexy play at all and I actually kind of hate it, but this number is too big and I think the under is a good look here, too, as both teams scoring 60 in this matchup seems like a stretch. However, I’m not committing to that quite yet.
These teams are almost identical offensively, with Rutgers coming in at 100.8 and Purdue at 100.4 on KenPom offensive efficiency in conference play. The difference, albeit a small one, comes on the defensive end, where Rutgers comes in allowing 0.92 points per possession and Purdue at 0.95 points per possession. This difference more than makes up for the tiny advantage Purdue has on offense and offsets some of the built in home court advantage.
Rutgers is the better team here and I’ll gladly back them against an unimpressive Purdue team.

Louisville at Virginia (-1)
How do you beat the pack-line? Shoot over it. What does Louisville do extremely well? Shoot the three. Louisville is the best in the ACC at shooting the three. They’re 39.1% in conference play and 16th in the country. I do have my reserves with Louisville being able to score on the road, but I think they have just enough to be able to win against this Virginia team on the road.
Jordan Nwora stepped up big last game and looked like the player we all thought he would be at the beginning of the year. Louisville just has too much offense at the end of the day and they should be able to ruin Virginia’s senior night.
